OPP investigating suspicious death in Lac Seul First Nation

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating what they say is a suspicious death in Lac Seul First Nation.
Police shared in a July 31 media release, “On Thursday, July 31, 2025, at approximately 12:05 a.m., officers were called to the area of Mahkwa Road where one person was located deceased. The death has been deemed suspicious.
“The OPP Sioux Lookout Crime Unit is continuing this investigation with Lac Seul Police Service, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OFPS). A postmortem examination will be conducted by the OFPS in Toronto.”
Police say residents of the Lac Seul First Nation community of Frenchman’s Head will continue to see an increased police presence as the investigation continues.
