Sioux Lookout’s Winter Festival is scheduled for March 6,7,and 8 and the Municipality of Sioux Lookout is inviting local businesses, organizations, and community members to join in the fun.
“We encourage local businesses, organizations, and community members to get involved and host activities during the festival weekend. The goal of the Winter Festival is to bring the community together, promote outdoor activity, and celebrate the winter season before spring arrives,” the Municipality of Sioux Lookout shared.
“We’ve been hosting the Winter Festival for a couple years now, and through experience we’ve found that the first weekend of March tends to work best for these types of activities. Scheduling it just before March Break allows us to reach families before many leave town for travel or other commitments. Earlier in the winter, weather conditions can be quite harsh, which can impact attendance and outdoor programming. Later in March, milder temperatures and melting snow can make winter activities less enjoyable. We’ve also found that March is typically a quieter month for community events, so it’s a great opportunity to kick off the month with a full weekend of activities for families and residents to enjoy. Overall, this timing helps us maximize participation while still offering a true winter experience,” the Municipality shared.
The Municipality is partnering with several local organizations to host events for the Winter Festival including the Sioux Lookout Bombers, Friends of Cedar Bay, the Nishnawbe-Gamik Friendship Centre, Sioux lookout OPP and Sioux Lookout Fire Fighters.
Activities already confirmed during the Winter Festival include the OPP vs. Firefighters hockey game, Ice Bikes at the Ball Diamonds, snowshoeing, weiner roast, outdoor skates and pony rides.”
