MRI services at the Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre (SLMHC) are another step closer to opening.
The health centre shared in a Facebook post last week that the much-anticipated delivery of the modular MRI Suite will be taking place February 17th through the 19th.
SLMHC advised this will result in some temporary traffic flow changes.
The health centre shared, “On February 18th, the Ambulatory Care Entrance roundabout will be closed to all vehicles, however the Ambulatory Care Entrance can still be accessed by foot traffic or those parking in the Patient and Visitor parking lot. All vehicles requiring drop-offs will need to take place at the Main Entrance.”
SLMHC had shared in May of 2025 that the timeline to start the first MRI scans is August 2026.
The Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre Foundation, which had been running an MRI Campaign to fundraise for the important piece of equipment, shared last week on Facebook, “We did it – The Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre Foundation’s MRI Campaign has now officially come to an end! With construction of the brand new state-of-the-art Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Suite at SLMHC officially underway, our goals of bringing these essential services to our area have come full circle.
“The SLMHC Foundation is incredibly proud to have played a role in the MRI Project, helping to meet the critical needs of our patients. We are deeply grateful for the overwhelming support we’ve received throughout our fundraising journey. Thanks to the generosity of individuals and organizations alike, the MRI machine is now a reality for our community. Our heartfelt thanks go out to every donor.”
The SLMHC Foundation went on to share, “As we celebrate this milestone, our work continues—committed to supporting the hospital’s ongoing capital equipment needs. The Foundation’s efforts to raise money will remain ongoing and future funds raised will continue to be directed to the Equipment Fund.
