Memories & Celebrations: Obituary
Blair Michael Fowler
It is with saddened hearts that the family of Blair Fowler announce his passing on Thursday, March 5, 2026, just two days before his 69th birthday, while at his longtime residence of Pickle Lake, northern Ontario.
Survived by his three sisters Patricia Graham (James) of North Bay, Judy Welsh (Stephen) of Espanola and Kelly Thomas (Darren) of New Dundee. Blair had seven nieces and nephews and nine great nieces and nephews. Also survived by his stepdaughter Treena Ashmugeesha (Henry) and two granddaughters Anika and Mila. Predeceased by his parents Hilton (2013) and Angela (Anne) (2018) of Copper Cliff.
Blair grew up in the town of Copper Cliff and attended Saint Charles High School in Sudbury. He completed his BA at Laurentian U and then his teaching degree at Lakehead U. Blair enjoyed playing basketball and football at St. Charles and continued to keep in touch with his high school friends at an annual fishing get together. Blair spent his childhood summers at the family camp on Long Lake with swimming, fishing and boating, which probably contributed to his love of Pickle Lake.
Blair began his lifelong career in Mishkeegogamang, teaching at Missabay Community School, where he dedicated 36 years to educating and inspiring students. Over the course of his career, he taught many generations within the community. In his later years, he focused on adult education, becoming a pillar in the community who encouraged others to obtain their diploma and pursue further education.
Despite his quiet and humble nature, Blair was a well-known and respected man who made a lasting impact on countless lives. His love for his family, friends, colleagues, and students was evident throughout his life and in the dedication he showed to his work and community.
While he shaped the lives of many students, some of his most treasured moments were spent as Poppa Blair, a role he carried with deep love and quiet pride. We will miss him greatly.
A private family viewing has taken place prior to cremation.
A Celebration of Life in Mishkeegogamang will be held at a later date, with details to be announced.
