Two suspects arrested, charged with attempted murder in Eabametoong First Nation

Members of the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) located and arrested two suspects they say are connected to an ongoing attempted murder investigation following a Thursday morning assault in Eabametoong First Nation.
NAPS shared in an Aug. 14 media release, “Frontline members of the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service in Eabametoong First Nation received a call for service in the morning hours of Thursday, Aug. 13, regarding an adult female who was receiving treatment at the community nursing station for injuries consistent with a recent assault.
“The victim was transported out of the community for further evaluation and treatment of their injuries. The exact extent of their injuries remains unknown but are believed to be serious and life-threatening.”
Through their investigation, police identified two suspects. Police say the suspects were located and arrested without incident on Thursday, Aug. 13 and held in custody for bail.
Members of the NAPS Criminal Investigations Unit are involved in the ongoing investigation.
A 24-year-old Eabametoong First Nation resident has been charged with:
- Attempt to Commit Murder
- Aggravated Assault
- Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
A 17-year-old Eabametoong First Nation resident has been charged with:
- Attempt to Commit Murder
- Aggravated Assault
- Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
Both accused appeared for a bail hearing on Friday, Aug.14, and were remanded into custody with a future court date.
The investigation remains ongoing.
