Search warrant leads to drug charges in Nibinamik First Nation

Three people are facing drug trafficking charges after members of the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) seized nearly $150,000 worth of suspected cocaine and crack cocaine following a search of two Nibinamik First Nation (also known as Summer Beaver) residential addresses on March 9.
Police shared in a March 10 media release, “Members of the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service’s Intelligence Unit, with assistance from the NAPS Emergency Response Team, executed search warrants at two residential addresses in Nibinamik First Nation on Monday, March 9.
“The search warrants were obtained as a result of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking within the community.”
Police say three suspects were identified and arrested at the scene without incident.
Following their search, police located and seized a quantity of suspected cocaine, crack cocaine, cash, and paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking.
Police say the estimated street value of the drugs seized totals more than $147,000 CAD.
A 45-year-old Winnipeg resident has been charged with:
• Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
A 35-year-old Nibinamik First Nation resident has been charged with:
• Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
A 32-year-old Nibinamik First Nation resident has been charged with:
• Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
The accused from Winnipeg appeared for a bail hearing on Tuesday, March 10 and was remanded into custody with a future court date. Police say the other two suspects were released from custody with conditions and a future court date.
The Government of Ontario is investing more than $10.7 million through the Winter Roads Program, Bridges and Culverts Stream over the next two years to, "build and upgrade water-crossing infrastructure across the winter roads network in the North."
