Sawmill operations training
Six trainees, representing five area First Nation communities, earned Sawmill Operations Training certificates on April 26 through a training program offered by the Sioux Lookout Area Aboriginal Management Board (SLAAMB) through the Harvester Support Grant Program.
The five First Nation communities had purchased sawmills from Norwood Sawmills and from April 24 – 26 at SLAAMB’s training property in Hudson, instructors from Norwood Sawmills guided the trainees through an overview of the sawmill, how to safely operate and maintain it, and how to process logs into lumber.
Certificates for completing the training went to Marcel Beardy – Bearskin Lake First Nation, Lloyd Mathews – Fort Severn First Nation, Riley Moose – Poplar Hill First Nation, Hunter Quequish – Weagamow First Nation, Marco Sugashie – Poplar Hill First Nation, and Thomas Tookate – North Spirit Lake First Nation.
