Report From Parliament Hill
Eric Melillo, MP, Kenora Riding
Dear Constituents
This week the House of Commons resumed sitting. My Common Sense Conservative colleagues and I have heard from millions of Canada across the country over the summer and are ready to stand up for what is important to you in Ottawa.
After 9 years of this NDP-Liberal government, life has never been so expensive. This has left many Canadians to turn to food banks for help. In fact, more than 1 million Ontarians visited a food bank in 2023. Unfortunately, prices continue to rise on the goods Canadians need with families having to spend $700 more on groceries this year than they did in 2023.
The cost of housing has also doubled under this government, leaving many struggling to pay rent or their mortgage. Young Canadians are losing hope on ever being able to afford a house.
The cost of living has been raised as a result of NDP-Liberal tax hikes. In April, they raised the carbon tax by 23%, and plan to quadruple the carbon tax to 61 cents per litre. They have also introduced another job-killing tax on healthcare professionals, homebuilders, farmers, and small business owners.
The NDP-Liberal government’s dangerous catch-and-release policies are also making Canada unsafe. Recently released Statistics Canada data shows that violent crime has increased 50%, homicides are up by 28%, sexual assaults are up 75%, and gang murders have nearly doubled.
This issue is so bad that every single Canadian premier, across party lines, wrote a letter pleading with the government to scrap their catch-and-release bail policies before more lives are lost.
That is why Common Sense Conservatives have introduced a non-confidence motion in this government that will soon be voted upon.
Canadians need an election NOW to decide between the Costly Coalition of NDP-Liberals who tax your food, punish your work, take your money, double your housing costs and implemented policies that have caused crime to spike OR Common Sense Conservatives who will axe the tax, build the homes, fix the budget, and stop the crime.
The NDP and the Bloc Québécois will have a choice – will they sellout to Justin Trudeau – or will they vote non-confidence and force a carbon tax election.
