Staff Sergeant Karl Duewel and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Pardon Project Team visited Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug (KI or Big Trout Lake) First Nation from November 17 to November 19 to assist community members with completing record suspension (pardon) applications.
“The Pardon Project began in June 2025 at Weagamow (North Caribou Lake) First Nation as part of the OPP’s ongoing commitment to reconciliation. Building on that success, the team travelled to KI where they supported over 60 community members and completed nearly 40 record suspension applications. The OPP and the Pardon Project Team extend their sincere thanks to KI Chief and Council for welcoming them into the community and making this event possible,” Ontario Provincial Police shared in a Nov. 20 media release.
The next Pardon Project event is scheduled for Pickle Lake in 2026,
“Through initiatives like the Pardon Project, the OPP continues its commitment to reconciliation by fostering relationships with Indigenous communities and supporting Indigenous-led changes that contribute to safe communities and a secure Ontario for all,” Ontario Provincial Police stated.
