Nominations being sought for Honouring the Past, Shaping the Future Awards

Members of the community are invited to submit nominations for an upcoming Truth and Reconciliation event, themed “Honouring the Past, Shaping the Future.”
The Municipal Committee on Truth and Reconciliation Gathering will take place on April 25 at 15 Fair Street.
Naomi Hoppe-Mackechnie, Lead, Truth and Reconciliation Nomination Commi ttee, shared on the Municipality of Sioux Lookout’s website, “This event is an opportunity to recognize and acknowledge individuals who have made a meaningful impact in our community by promoting awareness, demonstrating strength, supporting others, or driving positive change toward reconciliation. It is also a chance to reflect on where we have come from and continue building a strong foundation for working, learning, and living together with respect and understanding.
“We welcome nominations from across the community. Any person may be nominated. We ask that each nomination include a brief rationale explaining why the individual is being nominated and how their actions, leadership, or lived experience have contributed to reconciliation, community strength, or positive change.”
Nomination categories include:
- Youth (Ages 5–17)
- Youth (Ages 18–29)
- Education
- Corporate or Private Sector
- Not-for-Profit Sector
- Healing Through Action
- Sports
- Arts, Music, or Entertainment
- Elders and / or Knowledge Keepers (2)
Nominations may be submitted by any member of the public.

All nominations must be received by Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
