The Hugh Allen Clinic has been awarded $603,400 in expansion funding from the Province of Ontario to create a new Family Health Team in Sioux Lookout, the Hugh Allen Family Health Team.
According to joint media release issued by the Hugh Allen Clinic and Hugh Allen Family Health Team, the new funding will “expand local primary care access and support patient attachment.” “Secured through a successful joint proposal with the Kiiwetinoong Healing Waters Ontario Health Team, this investment directly targets critical health priorities in our community. The new funding of $603,400, enables the expansion of local available services for Physiotherapy, Dietitian, Social Services Worker resources and our first fully funded Nurse Practitioner (NP),” the joint release informs, adding, “To support this expanded care delivery, our team has already hired a Physiotherapist and a Social Service Worker. Recruitment is currently underway for a Dietitian and Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join the multi-disciplinary team.”
The newly formed Hugh Allen Family Health Team shared, “This funding represents a vital investment in the health and well-being of our community, at the Hugh Allen Family Health Team. Working alongside our partners and our local physician group at the Hugh Allen Clinic, this expansion allows us to attach more unattached patients to primary care while providing robust, ongoing support for chronic disease prevention and management.”
The joint release states, “The Hugh Allen Family Health Team, together with its partner organizations and the Hugh Allen Clinic, remain committed to delivering collaborative, high-quality, patient-centred care across the Sioux Lookout region. The Hugh Allen Family Health Team, with all the interprofessional healthcare workers, is located within the Hugh Allen Clinic to allow a seamless and cohesive relationship between all team members.”
“We wish to thank the Ontario Government for their commitment to improving healthcare access in our region,” the organizations shared.
