Memories & Celebrations: Obituary
Ron Wynn
August 14, 1950 - January 9, 2026
Ron Wynn was born on August 14, 1950, in Allenwater Bridge, Ontario, to Lizzie (nee Skunk) and Daniel Kitchkeesick Wynn. Ron passed away suddenly from heart disease, leaving his family heartbroken and holding tightly to the legacy he built through love, resilience, and quiet strength. He was the last surviving of eleven children – John, Emily, Elaine, Kathy, David, Gilbert, Barry, James, Mary, Allen, and Ron.
At six years old, Ron was sent to Indian Residential School, returning home a decade later. He rarely spoke of those painful years, going on to create a life defined by responsibility, humour, and deep gratitude.
In early years Ron guided for tourist camps and worked for CN Rail. He then worked in the forest industry, moving to Sioux Lookout, Ontario, in 1974. He continued to work in the forest industry until his retirement in 2012. Ron loved retirement, particularly spending his days with his wife at their cabin on Wynn’s Landing in Allenwater Bridge, Ontario.
In 1972, Ron married the love of his life, June (nee Anderson), beginning a partnership that lasted 53 years. He embraced June’s daughters, Gail, and Arlene, as his own, and together they welcomed two more daughters, Liesa and Ronalda. Ron was immensely proud that all four pursued postsecondary education and cherished the unique bond he shared with each of them.
Ron was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. He delighted in his growing family, handing out candy generously and celebrating every milestone of his six grandchildren (Samanda, Hannah, Haileigh, Haven, George & Violet), six great-grandchildren (Kyra, Alayah, Riayah, Ezra, Sophie & Elessar), and three great-great-grandchildren (Malia, Kiaus & Alora). He loved and respected his son-in-laws, Elliott and Aaron.
He shared a lifelong friendship with his brother Gilbert Wynn whose passing, 2 years previously, deeply affected him. Those who loved Ron take comfort in believing the brothers are reunited.
Known for his humour, protective nature, and unwavering commitment to his family, Ron worked hard, sacrificed without hesitation. He lived by the values of loyalty and gratitude. Ron carried peace and became known as an Elder with an extensive knowledge of the land which he shared with his family when visiting Wynn’s Landing. Ron’s kindness, honesty, and grit shaped the lives of his children and will continue to influence generations to come.
Through it all he stood by June through every season of life, providing steadiness, partnership, and love. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
He is survived by his wife June Wynn; daughters Gail Anderson, Arlene Anderson, Liesa (Aaron) Wynn Pervais, and Ronalda (Elliott) Doxtater-Wynn; his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.
A service in honour Ron’s life was held on Saturday January 17, 2026, in Sioux Lookout, Ontario. Internment of his ashes will occur at a later date.
June Wynn and Family expresses thanks to extended family, friends and individuals in the community who supported us in this difficult time. We appreciate those who visited, brought food, brought firewood for Dad’s sacred fire, offered condolence, flowers, cards and contributions to the service potluck luncheon. A special thank-you to our traditional fire keepers offering support and ceremony.
A new campaign launched by Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority (SLFNHA) called the Cancer Survivorship Campaign, is raising awareness of the importance of regular screening, early detection, and celebrating resilience, and life after cancer...
