John (Jack) Ronard Roy 

December 27, 1949 - July 8th, 2025

John (Jack) Ronard Roy passed away peacefully with family on Tuesday, July 8th, 2025. He was the son of William and Alene Roy, born in Sioux Lookout, Ontario, on December 27, 1949. He had one brother, Donny Roy, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins throughout Northwestern Ontario. He worked a couple of odd jobs, like Fuller’s Service Station, before hiring on with CN Railway and spending the next 35 years as an engineer. After retiring from CN, he spent the last 25 years running his own construction business called JR Roy Enterprises. He was a workaholic who took tremendous pride in looking after his machines and had a passion for helping people.  

He grew up spending time with his family and friends on the lake, where he enjoyed fishing and water skiing in the summer, and in the winter, he played competitive hockey well into his fifties. He spent countless hours helping his family build a cottage in Alcona that became his favorite place in the entire world. 

 He cherished 52 years of marriage to Nancy (Stewart) Roy, and together, they laid the very foundation of our entire family. He was incredibly proud of his two sons, Jason and Jimmy. He loved traveling the world, playing golf with Jason, and following Jimmy’s path in the world of hockey. As a husband, father, mentor, teacher, and friend, ‘Jackpot’ taught his family to look after each other with compassion and love, but will be remembered by everyone because of his work ethic. He had a tremendous passion for building, fixing, and improving everything he touched. He had 1 grandson, Cooper, and 3 granddaughters, Brooklyn, Savanna, and Summer. Known as PAPA, his gentle, kind, generous heart is what he’ll be remembered for. They were his entire world, and he loved hearing about their newest and greatest adventures.  He loved his two daughters-in-law, Cindy and Laura, and often told his sons what great mothers they were to his grandchildren.

He loved living in Sioux Lookout. Every day started with coffee, and true friends at Roy Lane and the Red Brick Cafe. He finished every day with the odd glass of rum, and true friends in the garage at home. His presence will never be forgotten, and his absence will be forever missed. He truly left this world in a better place and taught us all how important friendship and family are to make life worth living. 

Service to celebrate his life and community contributions will be announced at a later date.
