Gwenda Lynne Wilson, nee Koval
March 26, 1956 - July 1, 2025
Gwenda Lynne Wilson, nee Koval, age 69, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025 at Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Hospital in Sioux Lookout with her loving family by her side. She was born to William and Ramona Koval in Pickle Crow, Ontario on March 26th, 1956. Her parents were some of the original settlers of Pickle Lake, and she was the eldest of five. Gwenda met her soon to be husband Ivan in Pickle Lake and they married in 1981 in Winnipeg, MB.
They moved to Sioux Lookout in early 1982 and Erin was born shortly after in February. Their second daughter Carey was born in October 1983. Gwenda was a stay-at-home mom, cooking and making clothes for the girls until they were both in school full time.
She worked at Bank of Montreal in Sioux Lookout for over 25 years, was professional yet personable something that was important to her. Gwenda volunteered many hours to several organizations in town; she was especially dedicated to St. Mary’s Anglican Church. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family, friends, and community. She spent many enjoyable hours knitting and quilting. The passion of curling was passed down from her grandmother Winnie, her parents and she passed that onto her daughters, she took that passion to the Women’s Senior Provincials. Gwenda was also true to Pickle Lake, spending many weekends and every holiday travelling there to be with family up until 2019.
Gwenda is survived by her husband Ivan, daughters, Erin (Andrew) and Carey (Troy), grandchildren, Taylor, Andi, Theo, Tessa and Tillie, siblings Tisha (Jimmy), Norma, Douglas (Sally), Winston (Tina), nieces and nephews, aunties, uncles and a host of beloved cousins. She is predeceased by her parents William and Ramona Koval.
A service to celebrate Gwenda’s life will be held at St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Sioux Lookout, on Wednesday, July 9th, 2025 at 11:00 AM. A luncheon will follow at the lower Legion Hall.
In lieu of flower the family asks that you bake a batch of muffins to share with a neighbour or make a donation to St. Mary’s Anglican Church.
