Memories & Celebrations - Obituary
Albert Allan Walski
May 4, 1958 - Oct 7, 2025
On Oct 7th, 2025, after a courageous battle with numerous health issues, our loving brother, father, grandfather, and uncle passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends.
Allan was a true warrior in every way. After struggling with addiction in his youth and early adulthood, Allan found sobriety and pursued a life walking the “Red Road”, learning the ways of his ancestors through traditional Elders and then passing on his own wisdom and medicine.
Early in Allan’s career, he followed in his father’s footsteps by becoming a fishing guide and mastering the waters of Minnitaki Lake and Lac Seul. Over the years, he worked for many of the local tourist camps and was sought after by tourists, year after year, as their personal fishing guide. Allan was also an avid hunter and loved to cook using wild game meats and fish.
Allan later started working for the Nishnawbe-Gamik Friendship Centre where he stayed for 17 years. This new role provided him with the opportunity to not only embrace his traditional Anishnawbe teachings through drumming and singing, but also to give back to his community. Allan was known for sharing his own unique wisdom, teachings and humour with everyone who crossed paths with him.
Allan is predeceased by his parents, Albert and Emmie Walski, his brothers Tony and John Farmer.
He will be lovingly remembered by his children, grandchildren, siblings, numerous nieces and nephews and his “chosen” family and friends.
A heartfelt thank you to all the medical staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital (Thunder Bay), Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre and the Sioux Lookout Meno-Ya-Win Health Centre, for your care and support of Allan over the last 1.5 years.
A “Celebration of Life” was held on Oct 17/25 at the Nishnawbe-Gamik Friendship Centre. The family wishes to thank everyone involved, who helped to give Allan, a memorable and honourable journey home, with songs, and heartfelt stories filled with so much love. We are forever grateful for your support.
Expressions of sympathy and/or donations can be made to the Nishnawbe-Gamik Friendship Centre in Sioux Lookout.
