KDSB awards 2026 Child Poverty Reduction Reinvestment Funding allocations to support children in the region

Pro Kids in Sioux Lookout is one of 14 recipients of 2026 “Child Poverty Reduction Reinvestment Funding” (CPRRF) awarded by the Kenora District Services Board (KDSB).
KDSB awarded the funding to community-led initiatives across the District of Kenora at its March board meeting.
KDSB noted in an April 1 media release that, “The KDSB Board of Directors believes that all children and youth deserve equitable access to organized sports, recreation, community activities, and food security.”
“The approved applications from community partners for the 2026 Child Poverty Reduction Reinvestment Fund included thoughtful ideas for programs and services designed to support the health and well-being of children and youth. The Board deeply values the Child Poverty Reduction Reinvestment Funding program, recognizing its role in supporting brighter futures and ensuring children and youth in our communities experience greater equity, opportunity, and well-being within the Kenora District,” stated Fred Mota, KDSB Board Chair.
In total, the KDSB will be providing funding to fourteen programs throughout the District:
Double K Equine – Summer Camp – Recreation Access - $7,000, Ecole Immaculée-Conception – Student Nutrition - $2,500, Horseshoe Connection – Cultural Recreation - $9,000, Ignace Nursery School – Food Security - $2,500, Ignace Public School – Loonie Lunch - $5,000, Ignace Youth Centre – Youth Recreation - $5,000, Keewatin Patricia District School Board – Parents Attending Secondary School - $4,500, Making Connections for Children and Youth – Recreation Access - $10,000, Mary Berglund Food Programs – Food Security - $7,300, Northwestern Health Unit – Nutrition on Weekends - $47,095, Red Lake Indian Friendship Centre – Recreation Access - $12,750, The Municipality of Sioux Lookout – Pro Kids – Recreation Access - $7,500, Township of Ear Falls – Youth Drop-In Centre - $2,500, Triple P.L.A.Y. Kenora – Recreation Access - $7,500. Total: $130,145.
“Through the CPRRF, the KDSB looks forward to working with community recipients in 2026 and supporting community organizations in implementing programs that increase the overall well-being and participation opportunities for children and youth in the Kenora District,” KDSB concluded.
