Join in the Pink Warrior Run on March 7

The Ojibway Power Toboggan Association (OPTA) is inviting community members to join in their Pink Warrior Run on March 7.
The goal of the breast cancer fundraising snowmobile ride is to raise $25,000 for the Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre Foundation (SLMHCF) to help those who are in our community with their journey and for any equipment upgrades.
Pre-registration for the event will take place at the OPTA Clubhouse at 108 Abram Lake Road on March 6 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Participants can also register from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on March 7.
The fundraising ride will travel to Hudson for an English High Tea at the Hudson Hall, then back to Sioux Lookout to the OPTA Clubhouse for refreshments.
A 50/50 draw and silent auction will also be part of the event.
Corrie Starting, Events Coordinator for the OPTA, shared, “The idea was a collaborative effort of myself, Sonia Nutt (Treasurer) and Alex Nutt (Active Member).  We wanted to create a fun ride for ladies and support a cause that touches so many. (men are also welcome)”
Tickets to participate in the event cost $20.
“After the ride there will be the draw for the grand prize, 50/50, Raffle and silent auction,” Starting shared.
Tickets can be purchased at Mascotto’s Marine, Bumper to Bumper Sioux-Per Auto Parts, Al’s Sports Excellence, 5 Mile Corner Gas Station, from OPTA club member or at [email protected].
Anyone wishing to join in the fun who does not have a snowmobile can still participate by registering, purchasing a ticket, and retaining the stub
“Breast Cancer is something that has affected so many.  So we just want to do what we can,” Starting said, adding, “The money raised will go to our local hospital to help with the upgrade to our mammogram machine that will be due next year. As well as offer help with supplies for screening clinics and biopsy clinics. Also to help spread the word on the importance of early screening and at home checks.  The earlier you can detect breast cancer the better the chance to fight it.”
Starting concluded, “We would like to thank our community and the Dryden community for their support through donations and donation of prizes to help us make this event happen. Ojibway Power Toboggan is committed to be an active member of our community and we support all the clubs here in the great north.  We are always looking for volunteers and new members to join and help keep our trails safe and fun for all snowmobilers.  Don’t forget your trail pass.  A special permit will be available for those who need to purchase a trail pass for the event.
