First Nations sign corridor agreement for Ring of Fire
Webequie, Neskantaga, Eabametoong and Nibinamik First Nations signed an agreement at the start of March to pursue the development and operation of an east-west corridor in the Ring of Fire.
Kingfisher Lake walkers taking aim at prescription drug abuse
“They are taking the initiative themselves and I see that as very honourable,” said Nishhnawbe Aski Nation Grand Chief Stan Beardy about the walk two men from Kingfisher Lake First Nation have undertaken. Band Councillor William Mekanak, 37, and teenager Bryan Sainnawap, 16, are walking from their community to Sioux Lookout, a 500 km trek, to raise awareness and funds for a new treatment centre to help the community battel prescription drug abuse.
