Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre Foundation
Thank you, Sioux Lookout and region, your generosity is helping SLMHC to continue to be The Hub of Medical Excellence for the North!
If you are following other hospital fundraising campaigns in the region, the fundraising is ongoing so as not to be reactionary and ensuring there is funding to keep our hospitals up to date. Every community wants the best access to top of the line equipment, to be able to offer our medical professionals state of the art technology in which to provide us with quick, efficient testing and results. What does it mean when we say … keeping quality healthcare close to home? It means that when you choose to donate to a fundraising cause for the hospital here in Sioux Lookout, your donation will help fund specialized equipment purchases in one of the many departments looking to upgrade to state of the art technology. This means that our loved ones – family, friends, neighbours, co-workers are taken care of in the sincerest way. Our goal at the Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre Foundation is to be able to provide relief, less stress and increased comfort for those in need of testing, surgery and aftercare – not having to take time off work and the added stress of travel out of the community for testing, surgeries and treatments. To be able to have your family by your side during your healthcare journey.
Update on MRI Campaign – Transforming Our Regional Healthcare, One Image at a Time
In 2023 the Provincial Government announced they would give the SLMHC operational funds to house an MRI. At that time, it was expected that our community would have to raise $ 7 million.
Sioux Lookout moved forward with this challenge and with your overwhelming response and generosity we have raised $2.7 million to date.
In January 2025 we received a very exciting announcement that the provincial government has awarded us with up to $8.1 million to fund a brand-new suite to house the first every MRI in Sioux Lookout. This funding for the capital build does not include the MRI machine. While we are hoping for other government funding, the remaining balance will be covered by the foundation.
The MRI building details and timelines will be featured in an article in The Sioux Lookout Bulletin in the coming weeks.
