Dress Purple Day
Tikinagan Child & Family Services celebrated Abitewaapisowikiishikaa (Dress Purple Day) on October 29, inviting the community to colour Sioux Lookout purple and join them for a group photo at the Municipal Office in Sioux Lookout.
“Together with SLFNHA and Children’s Aid Societies and Indigenous Child and Family Well-Being Agencies across the province, we’re raising awareness about the important role that individuals and communities play in supporting children, youth, and families,” Tikinagan shared.
Taking part in the group photo were representatives from Tikinagan Child & Family Services, Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority (SLFNHA), Community Living Dryden-Sioux Lookout, Firefly, the Municipality of Sioux Lookout, and Sunset Women’s Aboriginal Circle.
Tikinagan shared that wearing purple shows that:
- You speak up for the safety of children and youth in your community
- You are a safe person children and youth can come to if they are feeling uncomfortable or unsafe
- You support children and youth’s right to safety and well-being in all spaces
