Best year ever for Smile Cookie sales in Sioux Lookout

With the help of corporate sponsors in the community, this year’s Tim Hortons Smile Cookie campaign in Sioux Lookout has raised its highest amount to date.

Running from April 29 – May 5 this year, 100 percent of proceeds from every Smile Cookie sold at Tim Hortons restaurants supported charities and community groups across Canada.

Through this year’s Smile Cookie campaign, $23,141.55 was raised locally in support of the Friends of Cedar Bay.

Friends of Cedar Bay Board Member Mike O’Brien shared, “We were getting businesses that would match revenue for one day. So, whatever we made in that one day, a company would match that particular day.”

Supporting the Friends of Cedar Bay this year as corporate sponsors during the Smile Cookie Campaign were Perron Contracting, First Mining Gold, Old Mill Dental Clinic, Sioux Gravel and Excavating, and Rosiak Carpentry.

“The town’s so supportive. The businesses are very supportive, it’s nice to live in Sioux Lookout,” he said.

O’Brien said Sioux Lookout raised the second highest amount in Northern Ontario behind Sturgeon Falls.

The Friends of Cedar Bay thanked the businesses that supported the Smile Cookie campaign, all of the volunteers who helped decorate cookies and promote cookie sales, and everyone who purchased a Smile Cookie.

Funds raised through the Smile Cookie campaign will support programming for children and youth as well as upkeep of the horses and barn.

Friends of Cedar Bay Vice-Chair Joyce Timpson said the Smile Cookie campaign is a significant boon to the Friends of Cedar Bay, “It allows us to do more than just boarding horses, for example equine assisted learning.”

Asmara Aftab, Sioux Lookout Tim Hortons Store Manager, shared, “This is my favorite event of the year… it’s a really busy week for us. I really appreciate everyone’s help… All the volunteers were amazing this year and did a great job.”
