Anne Saltel named 2026 Jack McKenzie Memorial Award recipient

Anne Saltel is this year’s recipient of the John Alexander “Jack” McKenzie Memorial Award. 
Presented on July 31 by the Rotary Club of Sioux Lookout during the opening ceremonies of the 44th Annual Blueberry Festival, the award recognizes outstanding volunteerism, as exemplified by the award’s namesake.
The Award was created by the Rotary Club of Sioux Lookout in 1992 “in recognition of selfless dedication to the community and its people”. The award is presented in memory of the late Jack McKenzie, an outstanding volunteer who, for many years, served on a wide variety of committees and organizations.
Saltel was recognized for her long-standing commitment to volunteering in Sioux Lookout. “Many years ago, she helped organize television coverage of the area with Jack McKenzie. For nearly every election in recent memory, she has also taken responsibility for organizing All Candidates meetings,” Saltel’s nomination states. 
“Anne continues to serve the community in several important roles, including as the Vice Chair of the Environmental Committee, Chair of the Library Board, and is the secretary with the Sioux Seniors Activity Centre. Anne is the kind of volunteer who sees a need and gives her time to make Sioux Lookout a more connected community.”
Also nominated for the Jack McKenzie Award was Bob Johnston.
His nomination states, “Bob is known for his quiet dedication and dependable willingness to help. For many years, he has strengthened the Arts in Sioux Lookout through the Entertainment Series, Northern Lights Theatre, Boreal Music, and the Festival of Carols. 
“Whether sharing his musical talent, offering practical support, mentoring others, or stepping in wherever needed, Bob has made a lasting difference without seeking the spotlight. His contributions reflect the spirit of community service.”
Andreas Kottschoth, President of the Rotary Club of Sioux Lookout, shared, “Sioux Lookout is a community built by volunteers. Many of our favourite events and activities, including the Blueberry Festival, would not be possible without people who generously give their time, energy, and talent. Thank you to everyone who contributes to the strength and spirit of our community.”
