44th Blueberry Festival underway!
Alanna Pizziol-Carroll (centre, holding scissors), one of the Co-Chairs of the Blueberry Festival Committee, was joined by Festival committee members, Kenora-Kiiwetinoong MP Eric Melillo, Kiiwetinoong MPP Sol Mamakwa, Sioux Lookout Mayor Doug Lawrance, and Master of Ceremonies Dick MacKenzie as she cut a ceremonial ribbon to officially kick off Sioux Lookout’s 44th Blueberry Festival.
Pizziol-Carroll’s father, Allan Pizziol, who also joined in the ribbon cutting ceremony, co-founded the 10-day festival, which regularly features over 100 events, with the late Marnie Hoey and the late Dick Davidson.
The opening ceremonies, which took place on July 31 at Farlinger Park (Town Beach) included the singing of “O Canada” by Rheanne Jaravata, the presentation of the Jack McKenzie Award for outstanding volunteerism, and cupcakes handed out by members of the Blueberry Festival Committee with help from MP Melillo, and MPP Mamakwa.
