Storm Angeconeb, a proud member of Lac Seul First Nation, has put her considerable artistic talent to work for the Sioux Lookout Blueberry Festival Committee, designing the 2026 Blueberry Festival logo.
“It’s always an honor to share my work! I love working with my community and uplifting Northwestern Ontario’s voices,” Angeconeb said of being asked to design this year’s logo.
Commenting on her design, she said she reflected on the animals in her territory, specifically the black bear. “I drove inspiration from the land we live on, honoring mother earth and her gifts of food - blueberries.”
Angeconeb was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. “Treaty #1 and Treaty #3 are home to me. Community has shaped me into the person, and artist who I am today. I now reside in Red Lake with my family raising our son,” she shared.
“Always carrying my teachings and knowledge that has been passed down to me with respect and pride. Reflecting myself into my work and who I am as a proud Anishinaabekwe, Ojibwe Woman. Honoring those that came before me,” Angeconeb shared when asked about her art style.
Angeconeb said she is excited for this year’s Blueberry Festival, which runs from July 31 to August 9.
Alanna Pizziol-Carroll and Reece Van Breda are the Co-Chairs of the Blueberry Festival Committee.
Pizziol-Carroll said of asking Angeconeb to design this year’s festival logo, “I worked with Storm on the community initiative project and I proposed the mural for the arena. We worked really well together. I loved what she created. Unfortunately, it wasn’t selected. But talking to the committee I brought up the idea of asking her to create something, her talents, her creativeness. She said yes, she’d be happy to create something and I brought this to the festival committee… she provided me with a template, which I brought to the committee, everybody loved it.”
Van Breda agreed, stating he felt the logo will be a great addition to the festival.
“Storm has a very distinctive artistic style. Her work is something people can wear throughout the year,” he said.
Pizziol-Carroll said she was blown away by the logo Angeconeb created, “I was just so impressed with her creativity.”
Generic t-shirts, which will be gray this year, with the 2026 logo are estimated to be available as early as the end of April at the Blueberry Festival Office in the Tourist Information Centre building.
Pizziol-Carroll and Van Breda said Angeconeb’s design may find its way onto additional Blueberry Festival merchandise as well.
Pizziol-Carroll and Van Breda said Blueberry Festival mascot Blueberry Bert’s smiling face will continue to be highly visible on merchandise and throughout the festival.
