Scouts winter fun day
The sun was shining, hot dogs roasting, sled dogs were running, fish were biting, but best of all, the families were smiling! This past Sunday (March 24) all sections from our local Scouts group, together with their families, headed out on Bigwood Lake for an afternoon of winter fun.
We could not have asked for better weather for our event; cold enough to keep the ice from being slushy, but sunny enough to keep us all cozy warm. Approximately 50 Scouts and their families took to the ice for a fish derby and dogsled rides. For some families, this was their first time participating in this kind of event. A total of five fish were caught during our three hour event, but the youth that took the crown was our very own Beaver Scout Oliver with a monster of a Northern Pike weighing in at over 10lbs!!! This was very exciting to all of us as we learned that this was his first time out ice fishing and he caught the fish within the first five minutes of dropping his line! As if this was not enough excitement for our group, we noted the coincidence that all sections managed to bring in one fish each. JB caught on behalf of the Cub Scouts, Alyssa caught on behalf of the Scouts Troop, Holden caught on behalf of the families, and Sunshine caught on behalf of the Scouters!
Scouts Canada knows, and appreciates, the importance of enjoying our surroundings and simply being outside with friends and family. We would like to thank all who support us with our events, whether it be by cash donations, purchasing popcorn, getting your photos taken with Santa, donating prizes and/or food, as well as our families who are always willing to help out, including baking treats for us to share, we appreciate you all as these kinds of events would not be possible without your support!
If you or your family is interested in joining in on our Scouting adventures, please feel free to contact any of the local Scouters or check us on at Scouts.ca.
