Letter to the Editor
Thank you Bill George Extended Care staff
Media reports, documentaries and family testimonies abound across Canada of the deplorable conditions of Long Term Care homes. The abuse, neglect and poor treatment of loved ones in their “golden years” is not so “golden” for many. We as a family are very happy to assure those in Sioux Lookout and surrounding area, that this is NOT the case at Bill George Extended Care.
It was our great fortune to have our Mother, Marguerite Sinclair, relocate “home” to Sioux Lookout as a resident of Bill George Extended Care last January 2018. Little did we know it would be her last year with us, so being close by was even more precious and a huge blessing! We also didn’t realize that the care she would receive by the staff of ALL the Departments would be beyond our expectations.
The respect and dignity the staff showed to our Mother, especially in her last week, indeed was “golden”. It seemed to us many of the staff treated our Mother with the same tenderness they would have given their own! Could we have asked for anything more? We sensed their love and care.
As our Mother taught us, we are a praying family, and we want to continue to pray for the staff and residents of Sioux Lookout’s Extended Care Facility. It is our hope this will be our way to help provide the ongoing encouragement to continue their excellent care.
We as a family did not want to miss our chance to clearly tell all that the professionalism and efforts of the staff have not gone unnoticed. We will always be grateful. The care given to the most vulnerable of our society, those closest to God’s heart, is a great work and hugely underestimated.
Perhaps it can be best expressed with the well-known quote, “A nation’s greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members”. Well done staff of Bill George Extended Care, in the eyes of the Sinclair family, you are indeed great!
