Peewee Tournament
This weekend we had an 11 team tournament. This is the largest tournament that the Sioux Lookout Minor Hockey Association has hosted in a quite some time. Our teams, the Wolverines and the Storm, were joined by the Kenora Kubotas, the Kenora MCL Crushers, the Fort Frances Firemen, the Fort Frances BP Royals, the Dryden Gators, the Dryden Frostbite, the Dryden Stingers, the Ignace Phantoms, and the Ear Falls Eagles!
The first of our 22 round-robin games began at 9 am, on Friday the 18th. As the round-robins wrapped up on Saturday, the Sioux Storm were in 1st place with 8 game points and a goal average of 77 per cent followed by the BP Royals with 8 game points and a goal average of 75 per cent.
On Sunday, the Ignace Phantoms and the Dryden Gators battled it out to be C side Champions. With a final score of 5 to 2 the Dryden Gators were declared the C side Champions!
The Sioux Wolverines and Sioux Storm went head to head for the B side Championship! The honor of the first goal for the game went to #27, Jayden Forbes of the Sioux Storm in the second period. During the third period the Storm's #71 Sean Cole, and #33 Latrelle Whiskyjack scored back to back goals. Hailing from Pickle Lake, the Wolverine's #19 Tyler Macklin scored the team’s only goal of the game. The final score was 3 to 1 for the Sioux Storm, making them the B side Champions.
The A side Championship game was between the BP Royals and MCL Crushers. With a final score of 3 to 0 the BP Royals were declared the A side Champions!
This wonderful weekend of hockey would not have been possible without the help of all our wonderful parent volunteers, the fabulous staff at the Rec Center, and of course, the very generous donations from local businesses.
So that in a nutshell was our weekend. Hours and hours of dedicated preparation all came together to make a wonderful weekend of fun, friendship, and hockey!
