Nearly 150 vehicles stopped by on July 31 to wish Blueberry Festival mascot Blueberry Bert a happy 39th birthday.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Blueberry Bert’s birthday party was held as a drive-thru event this year, with 200 loot bags and 300 cookies being distributed to well-wishers. The event was sponsored by Tbaytel.
“It was definitely a change due to COVID. We did the same thing this year as last year and we found that it worked really well,” shared Blueberry Festival Coordinator Jessica Darling, who said she has received good feedback on this year’s festival.
“We’re looking forward to an awesome 2022 festival, which will be our 40th anniversary,” she added.
The Sioux Lookout Blueberry Festival Committee shared on its Facebook page on the evening of August 8, “Thank you, Sioux Lookout, for making this year’s Blueberry Festival a success! The committee has very much enjoyed bringing you as many events as were possible, and we’d like to throw out a huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out to any of the events, event organizers, sponsors, and everyone in between!
“We couldn’t have done it without any one of you, and we look forward to celebrating the 40th Annual Blueberry Festival with all of you in 2022! It will be the best one yet!! See you next year: July 29-August 7, 2022.”
