Legion Ladies’ Busy November
A space designated for your submissions
On Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019, the Legion Ladies Auxiliary Branch #78 held their 70th Anniversary Remembrance Day Tea in the upper club rooms of the Royal Canadian Legion. It was a beautiful day and there was a great turn-out of people of all ages attracted by the lovely tea tables, the touch and take items assembled and packaged by Glendene Schardt and the bake tables filled with goodies for sale.
The Legion Ladies want to thank the members and friends of the Legion who so generously donated to the success of this event. Many people donated money or goods for the bake or touch and take tables as well as baking dainties for the tea tables. Without the generosity of these people, this tea would not have been such a success. A big thank you to the Air Cadets who served and helped with the tea tables. After the event was over and after they had tea, they promptly helped clear the tables and return all of them with the chairs to the store room.
This 70th Anniversary Tea was convened and planned by Charron Sippola. After it was over she, with Marion Serson, planned for the Remembrance Day event. Not only were Legion Auxiliary members part of the colour party, after the service auxiliary members provided hot dogs and goodies upstairs for the younger set and beef on a bun with fixings for the other attendees to the Memorial Service. When everyone had their fill, the draw for the Gift Cards at Fresh Market was held. For several years, Legion Auxiliary members have sold these raffle tickets in favour of donations to local charities (usually Bill George Extended Care) and have been successful. At one o’clock a member of the OPP drew the two winners. Winner of the $500 prize was G. Kennedy and the $250 prize was S. Samuels. Later on the phone Mr. Kennedy said it was the biggest prize he has ever won—he was very happy.
Other donations at the tea were won by Mrs. Bastone, D. McIntyre and L. Baas-Monias. Many of these winners received a hand crafted poppy runner or table topper made by President Charron. These events were held on either end of the Skip to Equip and we still had plenty of attendees. This community continues to support it local organizations and their fund raising efforts. Thank you.
The December meeting will be held Tues., Nov.27th - hope all Auxiliary members can attend.
