A busy week for Sioux North High School athletes prior to the March Break!
On March 6, the Warriors girls hockey team travelled to Kenora to face off against the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints, falling 5-2 despite a strong effort.
On March 7, the Warriors boys hockey team travelled to Kenora to also face off against the Saints, also falling 5-2 in what was described as a great back and forth match.
Also on March 7, the Warriors Mixed Curling Team travelled to Fort Frances for an exhibition bonspiel. Warriors Athletic Director Janine Lavoie shared that the team had a rocky start with two losses but bounced back to win the C side final.
Skip Charles Darling shared, “We played really well that day. We all made a lot of great shots and some big games came down to just a few shots. It was a well put together tournament and the whole team had a lot of fun.”
Teacher Kym Caldwell accompanied the team and shared, “They pulled through and persevered to be able to take the two last games.”
On March 9 the Warriors girls hockey team travelled to Fort Frances to take on the Fort Frances Muskies.
Lavoie shared, “It was a great back and forth game and was tied 2-2 going into the 3rd period.”
The Warriors came up short, losing 8-4.
On March 10 the Warriors hosted the Beaver Brae Broncos in court sports action.
The Junior Girls Volleyball team defeated the Broncos two sets to one (first set BB 25 SN18; second set SN 25 BB 9; third set SN 25 BB 22).
The Senior Girls Volleyball team fell to the Broncos two sets to one (first set BB 25 SN 19; second set SN 25 BB 22; third set BB 25 SN 11).
The Junior Boys Basketball team had a strong start but fell to the Broncos 62-39 (end of first quarter SN 14 BB 12, end of second quarter SN 25 BB 24, end of third quarter SN 33 BB 41, final score SN 39 BB 62).
The Senior Boys Basketball team defeated the Broncos 66-59 (end of first quarter SN 13 BB 9, end of second quarter SN 31 BB 26, end of third quarter SN 51 BB 42 final score SN 66 BB 59).
