Warriors move on to Fort Frances

The Queen Elizabeth District High School Warriors boys hockey team won two-straight games in their best-of-three series against the Beaver Brae Broncos to move on to the NORWOSSA finals against the Fort Frances Muskies.
After winning game one, QEDHS hosted game two on February 24. Led by a Kendall Schulz hat-trick, and some timely saves from goalie Jaden Marshall, the Warriors had a 4-1 lead late in the third period. The Broncos scored two goals in the final two minutes to tighten the score to 4-3, but the Warriors were able to hold them off and advance to the finals.
“Other than the last two minutes, we were tight to the game plan. The boys stuck together and battled together. It was a team effort, which is something we’ve been stressing, too,” said head coach Karl Schulz.
The Warriors swept the playoff series despite losing all three regular season games against the Broncos. Both playoff games were close.
“We had to play in the dirty areas. We had to go to the net. We had to win the physical battles and we had to play simple hockey. We protected our end pretty well,” said Schulz.
The Warriors have a tough task ahead of them. They’ll be matching up against the first-place Muskies, a team that lost just one game in the regular season. The Warriors know that it’s going to be a tough series, but they’re confident that they can execute their game plan against the Muskies.
“It’s no secret, Fort Frances is the perennial favourite, but I think we have what it takes to beat them. You’ll see more of what you saw tonight. You might see some more physical play, but expect more of the same game plan,” said Schulz.
