Speaker brings inspiration to Sacred Heart School students

Motivational speaker Sean Hakim performed his attention-grabbing getSPARKED! show for Grade 4 to 8 students at Sacred Heart School on April 3.
Sean Hakim is a former actor and singer. He now tours as a motivational speaker and author. He enjoys having the potential to positively impact audience members during each show, whether it’s children or adults.
“I realized I could take all my acting skills, all my music skills and the joy of being in front of an audience and put that into something that is benefiting society in some way,” said Hakim.
GetSPARKED! Is all about empowering kids to be their best selves. The hour-long presentation focuses on fear, media, bullying, relationships, getting involved, peer pressure and believing in yourself. Hakim uses his personal experiences, singing, dancing, and audience participation to reach out to his audience and encapsulate the importance of following our dreams. Hakim explained that it’s hard for youth to harness their personal goals and dreams when they’re afraid of what others think.
“It’s super important to find out your individuality, and it’s hard to find your individuality when you’re in a sea of people all trying to act the same way, and all trying to do the same thing because they’re afraid of what society is going to think of them...People are going to judge you regardless, so you might as well do what you love.”
Hakim also explained that he enjoys bringing his message to small communities, and he values the opportunity to perform in the North.
“I feel more of a connection with the smaller communities because I know they don’t get a lot of speakers up here, so I’m very grateful for the fact that they brought me up here.”
Hakim plans on continuing to tour and motivate people. He said he enjoys the impact he can have on future generations.
“The job I get to do forces me to grow on a daily basis. I can’t stay stagnant, I always have to grow and keep bettering myself. I think that there’s no greater gift then in a sea of 200 kids, for one of those kids to take my message and start implementing changes in their life,” concluded Hakim.
