The Sioux Lookout Area Aboriginal Management Board (SLAAMB) celebrated seven Heavy Equipment Operator (HEO) program graduates during a dinner and ceremony at the Sunset Suites on Oct. 12.
Stemming from a partnership between SLAAMB and Perron Contracting, the eight-week training program provided qualified training instructors that taught students heavy equipment operations, maintenance training, rigging operations, sloping embankment, ditching, trenching, excavating, and more.
The seven trainees were Samuel Bluecoat (Fort Severn First Nation), Mark Fiddler (Sandy Lake First Nation), Trevor Kavanaugh (Eagle Lake First Nation), Darius McKay (Kasabonika Lake First Nation), Sydney McKeown (Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation), Mitchell Mekanak (Sachigo Lake First Nation), and Miranda Rae (North Caribou Lake First Nation).
“Your journey doesn’t end here. I encourage all of you to continue to get even more certified and knowledgeable in the field. Congratulations to all the trainees and thank you to Perron Contracting for the certified training. Good luck to everyone,” SLAAMB assistant coordinator Ziggy Beardy shared during the graduation ceremony.
