October 17 will mark the fourth-annual Mayor’s Fundraiser for Breast Cancer, with this year’s events including a Wear Pink initiative and Cookies for a Cause luncheon.
October is recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month across the globe, and Northwestern Ontario mayors have been challenged by the Canadian Cancer Society to raise money and combat breast cancer.
A media advisory from the Municipality of Sioux Lookout reads, “This year’s municipal campaign is “Wear Pink” with Mayor Lawrance challenging council, municipal staff, and the community to join in and support the fight against breast cancer, through not only fundraising but also raising awareness and supporting all those impacted by the disease.”
The Cookies for a Cause luncheon will be held at the Best Western conference room at noon on Oct. 17 for a luncheon and freshly baked cookie auction. Limited tickets are available at the Municipal Office and cost $25 each.
“It is my privilege to have another opportunity to raise awareness and funds to fight breast cancer, a disease that impacts so many of us,” said Mayor Lawrance in the media advisory.
Groups, businesses, organizations, or individuals that would like more information on tickets and pledge forms are encouraged to contact the Municipal Office via phone (807-737-2700) or email (firstname.lastname@example.org).
