SHS students put their free throw skills to the test

Approximately 30 students from Sacred Heart School (SHS) put their basketball shooting skills to the test in the annual Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship.
This year’s event took place February 15 at the school.
Boys and girls from nine to 14 took part in the event, shooting 15 consecutive free throw shots at the local council 3198 level.
Students from area schools were invited to participate in the event.
“The council competition determines which participants advance to the district free throw championship. Since travel to a district competition is not possible, the top two shooters in each age group had another shootout consisting of 25 consecutive free throws. The winners of that shootout then have their names and results forwarded to the next level to compare with the results of other participating Knights of Columbus Councils in our district,” SHS teacher Gary Schuurman explained.
“The participation at our school is wonderful. The enthusiasm is great and it’s just a good way to get students active in a friendly and positive competition,” he concluded.
