Residents join the Rotary Club for a sunset viewing

More than 20 people joined Rotary Club of Sioux Lookout members for a sunset viewing at Rotary Park on Oct. 18.
The second-year event was an idea that Rotarian Dick MacKenzie had in the works for a while, and the Rotary Club decided to be a part of it last year.
Guests were offered hot chocolate and hot dogs as they enjoyed some of the best sunset views in all of Sioux Lookout.
MacKenzie shared that he’d like to continue seeing Rotary Park used as a sunset hotspot for residents and guests to enjoy gorgeous views all year round.
“In the long run, I and Rotary would like to see the park area used by people who like to come up here and enjoy the view and the scenery. It’s a heck of a nice place, but I’d like to promote it as maybe a place to view the finest sunsets in sunset country,” he said.
Thanks to another idea that MacKenzie has had in the works, guests and residents will have even more reason to view, and photograph, sunsets from Rotary Park.
Through a newly constructed website, residents will be able to submit photos taken at Rotary Park for a monthly contest held by the Rotary Club.
“We’re going to have a contest running year round. Once a month we’ll choose a winner of pictures taken from here, hopefully of the sunset. The prize will be joining us for dinner at Rotary. Rotary Park is a great place to come and enjoy the views,” MacKenzie concluded.
The contest is officially underway. Photos can be viewed and submitted at siouxsunsets.com.
