Pelican Falls First Nations High School (PFFNHS) showed support for their Timberwolves athletes during a school-wide pep rally on Oct. 23. Students were encouraged to wear school colours and to show school spirit during the rally, which gave the school the opportunity to formerly introduce each team and athlete in front of the student body.
“We see both the students and athletes enjoy it, so it’s definitely something we’re going to try and host at the beginning of every year,” said PFFNHS athletic director Marc-Nicholas Martin-Paulichenko.
Following the pep rally, PFFNHS hosted the Atikokan Voyageurs in girls’ basketball and boys’ volleyball.
The seniors girls played an extremely close basketball game with the Voyageurs barely clinging on to a 32-31 win over the Timberwolves. The Voyageurs also won the junior girls matchup 36-14.
In boys’ volleyball, the Timberwolves lost the senior matchup 3 sets to 0, but won the junior matchup 3 sets to 1 in four close, high scoring sets.
Atikokan also took on the Sioux North High School Warriors in girls’ basketball and boys’ volleyball on Oct. 23. The two teams split the basketball matchups, with Atikokan winning 36-35 in the senior girl’s game, but the Warriors winning in 29-26 in the junior girl’s game.
In volleyball, the Voyageurs won the senior boy’s matchup 3 sets to 0, but the Warriors won 3 sets to 1 in the junior
