Approximately 130 people visited The Edwin Switzer Memorial, Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #78 November 4 to partake in a Remembrance Day Tea.
Organized by the Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the afternoon tea was a fundraiser for the Legion.
Members of Cadets 270 Otter Squadron, which includes youth from Sioux Lookout, Hudson, and Lac Seul, greeted visitors and served them tea, coffee, sandwiches, and dainties.
The event included a bake table as well as a touch and take table.
Tea and coffee were poured by Legion president Dennis Leney, Legion member John Cole, Ladies Auxiliary president Gail Roy, and Ladies Auxiliary past-president Peggy Stewart.
The tea was convened by Auxiliary member Charron Sippola.
Door prize for the event, a flower arrangement donated by Cheers!, was won by Michele Rouseau.
Ladies Auxiliary member Sandra Lockhart shared, “Without the help of the local Cadets, the Legion Ladies would not have been able to staff the tea tables so ably. These young cadets did themselves proud as they were both efficient and polite. The adult supervisor this year was Mitch Davis. His crew did not disappoint and some even helped do dishes in the kitchen. Their participation was invaluable.”
Remembrance Day ceremonies will be taking place in Sioux Lookout and Hudson Saturday, November 11.
Ceremonies in both locations will begin with a march to the cenotaph at 10:30 a.m.
An 11 a.m. service will follow at the Legion in Sioux Lookout, and in Hudson at 11 o’clock at the cenotaph.
A luncheon will follow both services.
