Obituary - Emily (Emelia) Kressall
May 7, 1928 - July 4, 2018
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Mother Emily Kressall, age 90, on July 4th 2018 at the Meno Ya Win Health Centre with her family by her side. She is survived by her children Polly (Morley), Walter (Beverly), Donna (David), Linda (Richard), daughter-in-law Pauline, sister-in-law Helen Moskal, 13 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Emily was predeceased by her husband Mike, son Michael, her parents, 4 brothers
and 5 sisters.
Emily was born in Ituna, Sask. She came to Sioux Lookout at the age of 17 where she met and married Mike at the age of 19. Together they built their home on Queen Street where they raised their five children. In July 2017 they celebrated their 70th anniversary before Dad passed away in October.
Mom enjoyed many aspects of life. She loved her crafts, working in the garden growing fresh veggies and vibrant flowers. Her yard was one of the best in town. If you couldn’t find her in the garden she was in the kitchen making perogies, cooking or baking something. You couldn’t get past the kitchen without her insisting you eat. She always managed to have multiple dishes ready to go at any time of day. Mom and Dad also enjoyed their love of fishing, picking blueberries, mushrooms, hunting, and going for wood. In later years they enjoyed their time on the swing in the backyard watching the birds and scenery.
In March of 2016 they moved into William George Extended Care. She suffered from dementia which didn’t slow down her wit, and was always quick to respond with her quirky humour or sarcasm (whether it was intentional or not). She loved having visitors, both family and friends. Any young child wouldn’t leave without a gift or treat in hand.
Friends and family were received for prayers at the Sioux Lookout Funeral Home Chapel on July 6th, 2018. The funeral service was held at the Sacred Heart Church July 7th, with Father Mike Mahoney officiating. Interment was followed at the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Eight of Moms’ grandsons acted as pallbearers. Donations for the Alzheimer Society or Sacred Heart Church Building Fund can be made through the Sioux Lookout Funeral Home.
We would like to thank Dr’s Morgan, Murdock, Laakso and staff at the Meno Ya Win Hospital, the staff at the William George Extended Care for their exceptional care, big hearts and wonderful years of dedication. Thank you also to Sioux Lookout Funeral Home, Father Mike, the choir, organist, CWL for their special part, and food, cards, mass cards, donations, and beautiful words of encouragement.
Mom will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
