Ice Candle Memorial Service on Friday evening

Christmastime is often seen as a time to surround oneself with family and good friends. However, for those who have lost a loved one this year, or even in years past, it can be a painful time of year.
To help bring a measure of comfort, St. Andrew’s United Church, St. Mary’s Anglican Church and Sacred Heart Church are once again working together to host Sioux Lookout’s annual Ice Candle Memorial Service.
This years’ service, which will take place on Friday evening, will include prayers, readings from scripture, hymns and a lighting of candles for those who have passed away this year locally.
The service will begin at St. Andrew’s United Church at 6:30 p.m. it will then continue at St. Mary’s Anglican Church and conclude at Sacred Heart Church .
“At each of the churches, there’s always an offer for anyone in attendance to come up and light a candle in memory of someone as well,” shared Muriel Anderson, one of the organizers of this years’ service.
Anyone thinking about attending the service is asked to bring a wind-proof portable candle or light for the outdoor procession from church to church.
The Rotary Club of Sioux Lookout will be placing ice candles at the three churches and snow pyramids at Sacred Heart/Northway and Hillcrest cemeteries in memory of departed loved ones.
Refreshments will be served following the service’s conclusion at Sacred Heart Church.
