For the first time, as part of International Woman’s Day 2018, the First Step Women’s Shelter will be honoring their Women of Inspiration Award winners at a luncheon on March 8.
“The inspiration award is for anybody. It could be for your mom, for example, or just someone who has inspired you. It’s for all women,” said First Step Women’s Shelter Executive Director Tana Troniak.
The luncheon will be from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the Nishnawbe-Gamik Friendship Centre. Organizers and guests will be celebrating every woman who receives a nomination.
“Everybody that gets nominated is going to get something. It’s not just for one person. We’re going to recognize all the women that get nominated,” said Troniak.
Nomination forms can be picked up at the Friendship Centre and SWAC. The First Step Women’s Shelter will be receiving nominations up until February 28.
“International Women’s Day is about recognizing strength, and that women have all different kinds of strengths. Whether they work at a women’s shelter or they’re at home raising a baby, they still inspire other women,” says Troniak. “I think it recognizes that women from all walks of life can be inspirational to other women, young women, and young girls.”
