Fires continue to burn across the region

As of last Sunday evening, sixty-two active fires continued to burn across the region, 51 of which were either under observation, being held or under control.
Smoke from large fires in Western Canada and the US continued to drift through the Sioux Lookout area last week.
The forest fire hazard in the Northwest Region is predominantly moderate to high with a few pockets of low hazard according to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry’s (MNRF) Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services.
The Restricted Fire Zone implemented by the MNRF in the Sioux Lookout area, as well as other areas of Northwestern Ontario, continues to be in effect until further notice.
