Festival of Carols practices underway

It’s an event many Sioux Lookout residents say helps kick-off the holiday season.
Members of the Community Choir began practicing for this year’s Festival of Carols on September 10.
Practices will be held Monday evenings at 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church leading up to concert day, in early December.
Festival of Carols director Gerard Normand is hoping for a good turnout for the choir.
He is inviting past choir members, and anyone interested in joining the choir for the first time, to Monday evening practices.
In his second year as choir director, Normand said he definitely feels more at ease coordinating the long-running seasonal event.
Asked about this year’s concert Normand shared, “The pieces we’ll be doing are from previous Festivals of Carols.”
He noted he had years of music to draw upon when putting this year’s program together.
“The ending is going to be different this year… I’ll just leave it at that,” he added.
He also hopes to feature a children’s choir in this year’s festival, adding he is looking for a children’s choir director.
Normand has two accompanists this year, freeing him up to put all of his energy into directing.
This year’s Festival of Carols will take place on December 2 at Sacred Heart Church and will feature two performances, one at 2 p.m., and another at 7 p.m.
