Close to 40 children, aged 4 to 12, took part in this year’s gymnastics summer camp, run by Coach Mike Lang from the Thunder Bay Gymnastics Association.
Running from August 20 to 24, Lang worked with Sioux Lookout Gymnastics Club gymnasts to strengthen their skills and build new skills.
“I try to condition them to get them stronger. I throw in some fun stuff,” Lang added.
Lang, who will have been a gymnastics coach for 46 years as of this October, has been coming to Sioux Lookout for 12 years to teach the summer gymnastics camp.
“The camp went great. The kids had fun and improved upon their skills. We had kids not able to do a handstand or a cartwheel close to doing them by the end of the week,” commented Sioux Lookout Gymnastics Club president and head coach Dale McGill.
“My girls said it was great working with him because his experience brought a different way of explaining things which made him easy to learn from. The parents I talked to thought he was great with the kids. He likes to joke around and make it fun.”
Community members will be able to sign their children up with the Sioux Lookout Gymnastics Club on September 12, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Recreation and Leisure Showcase at the Sioux Lookout Recreation Centre.
Gymnastics seasons starts on September 29 and runs through to the end of April.
