Work to demolish the former D+D’s Sports Bar located at 62 Front Street is expected to continue for at least two more weeks according to the Municipality of Sioux Lookout.
A fire in January of 2016 destroyed the roof and second floor of the building. The rest of the building experienced water damage as firefighters worked to put the fire out.
A partial demolition took place in September of 2016 when the roof over the second floor and upper walls were removed.
At their May 16 regular council meeting, municipal council awarded a contract to demolish the building to Sioux Gravel and Excavating Ltd. as the building was structurally damaged.
Asked what will happen to the space once demolition is complete, Jody Brinkman, manager of development services informed, “The site will be left in a clean, graded state.”
The building was formerly Clarke’s Hotel, then McFee’s Tavern, before becoming D+D’s Sports Bar.
