The nomination deadline is fast approaching for this fall’s Municipal election.
Candidates may file their nomination papers up to July 26 and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on July 27.
“Candidates wishing to file their Nomination for Council or one of the School Boards may do so at the Municipal Office. Upon meeting with the Clerk or Acting Deputy Clerk, the candidate will receive an information package to help inform them of the requirements of running for local office. The filing fee (also prescribed by legislation) is $100 for a councillor or school board trustee and $200 for mayoral candidates,” Municipal clerk Brian MacKinnon explained.
Nominations will not be accepted on Friday, July 20, as the clerk’s office is closed that day.
Currently running for the mayor’s seat are Doug Lawrance (incumbent) and Jason Bailey.
Running for the five councillor-at-large seats are Ron Bird, Yolaine Kirlew (incumbent), Debbie Baker, John Bath (incumbent) and Darlene Angeconeb.
Running for the Ward 1 (Hudson) councillor seat is Don Fenelon (incumbent).
An official list of candidates will be posted at the Municipal Office and online prior to August 1.
MacKinnon encouraged members of the public to visit the Municipality of Sioux Lookout’s election website for current election information and updates at www.siouxlookoutvotes2018.ca.
The municipal council and school board elections will take place on Monday, October 22.
