Municipality urges public to help keep town beautiful

The Municipality of Sioux Lookout is reaching out to residents, and visitors, to try and ensure the proper disposal of garbage and recycling.
“The Municipality appreciates all those residents and visitors who do their part to help keep our community clean and attractive. While the vast majority of residents are cognizant of the need to refrain from littering and of the need to follow the requirements respecting curbside garbage and recycling collection, we continue to reach out to residents and visitors alike to help maintain our community’s pristine natural beauty,” explained Municipal clerk Brian MacKinnon.
MacKinnon also explained that the Municipality started a social media series where they’ve been trying to educate the public more about local by-laws and other topics.
“The Municipality has been issuing a series entitled ‘Getting to Know Your Local By-laws’ via our social media channels, as a way of helping to educate the public on matters such as waste management, animal control, littering, yard maintenance and so forth. The purpose is to help ensure residents are aware of their responsibilities under Council’s By-laws,” he said.
Earlier this month, the Municipality released an image of improperly disposed fish guts in the garbage throughout their social media channels.
According to the Ministry of Natural Resources & Forestry, the following ways are more appropriate for the disposal of such materials, “Fishers should sink the guts in the lake, far from shore; OR Fishers should clean their catch at home and burry the guts in their back yard; OR Fishers should clean their catch at home, freeze the guts, and then put them out with household curbside collection on garbage day. We thank everyone for their cooperation.”
