Twenty-seven teams took to the lakes to participate in this year’s Morgan Fuels Junior Walleye Championship.
The event was sponsored by Morgan Fuels and run by Sioux Lookout Anglers and Hunters volunteers.
Employees of Morgan Fuels also volunteered at the event.
Organizers Rob Bellerose and Cory Lago said families were having fun and it turned out to be a nice day.
“The kids seem to be enjoying it and they’re bringing in some good fish weights. It’s nice to see the smiles and the weather cooperating,” said Bellerose.
“Everyone always has fun. It’s always fun to see families out with the kids and grandkids having a good time,” said Lago.
In the 10 and under division, taking first place with a weigh of 8.31 pounds, was the team of Hunter Atwood and Niels Madsen.
Second was the team of Romeo and Ryder Boissonneault.
The team recorded a total weight of 8.23 pounds.
Coming in third, with a weight of 5.89 pounds, was the team of Cooper and Derrick Sawdo.
In the 11-17 division, with a total weight of 8.70 pounds, the first place trophy was awarded to Maddie and Jason MacDonald.
In second place, with a weight of 7.60 pounds, was the team of Fletch Titus and Geraldine Morgan.
Taking home third prize, with a weight of 7.31 pounds, was the team of Dakota McDonald and Al Curtis.
Junior Walleye tournament sponsor Darrell Morgan said he enjoys seeing kids on the lake with their families.
“It’s nice to see the kids out with their families on the lake catching fish and taking part in what we enjoy here,” he said.
“My favourite part is watching the kids bring their fish to the weigh-ins. They always have a smile on their face, they’re happy and it’s good to see them proud of what they hauled in,” Morgan concluded.
