SLAFMC hosts fourth-annual pelt prep workshop

There was a steady flow of people at the Nishnawbe-Gamik Friendship Centre for the fourth-annual pelt prep workshop, put on by the Sioux Lookout Area Fur Managers Council (SLAFMC), on April 21.
“We do skinning demonstrations, and it’s also educational to help trappers prepare the pelts properly,” said Maegan Ciurko, secretary of the SLAFMC. “The workshop gets bigger every year.”
The workshop featured various raffles, games, a 50/50 draw, and vendors that sold pelt, trapping, and outdoors related products. All of the food proceeds went to the Sioux Lookout food bank.
Among the vendors was Marc McNay, who’s known for his television show The Real Deal on WildTV. McNay was selling products from his store The Palace, which is the only trapping supply company in Dryden.
“I told them that even if I don’t sell a single thing today, I will be back because the Sioux Lookout Area Fur Managers Council has already shown appreciation for us being here,” McNay explained. “We love having the opportunity to get our name out there, especially because we’re only a six-month-old business.”
