Good turnout for ice fishing derby on Bigwood Lake

This year’s crowd was just shy of last year’s record breaking participation in the annual Debbie Hill Memorial Ice Fishing Derby on March 18 at Bigwood Lake.
The yearly event, organized by the Sioux Lookout Anglers and Hunters, is usually well attended and is enjoyed by those who come out.
“It’s a great event. It’s the end of the March break, so all the families are back. We advertise it as a family event so people can bring their kids, have a good time, and all of the food is donated. It’s growing every year,” said event organizer B.J. Egerter.
This year’s first place catch was from Heather Densmore who reeled in a pike weighing 8.56 lbs. Dorothy Broderick came in second and Chris Toms came in third. They both reeled in 1.10 lb catches.
BJ Egerter thanked everyone who came out to the event, and wanted to especially recognize member Wally Glena and Vice President Willy Noland who dedicated their time to prepare food and make sure everyone was served.
